Post 12 Storyboard

Image
For my second creative project, I am making a commercial about myself. To help brainstorm and plan my first draft, I made a storyboard. I found it useful because it allowed me to think about transitions and dialogue placement.

Post 11 Color Theory

Image
Today I looked up a color theory tutorial. Using my highlighters, I followed along to the best of my abilities. I didn't think the orange was going to work but was pleasantly surprised.

Post 10 Layering

Image
On the back of my accounting lecture notes, I tried to draw a realistic image of myself. I used a photo as a reference and had a lot of fun experimenting with shadows and highlights. Something I noticed was that it was easier to shade a section of the paper and then draw over it. By doing this, I was able to add layers because I had a base that I could modify instead of just the white paper.

Post 9 But why?

To get outside of my comfort zone, I decided to attempt to animate a short video for today's blog post. I used 2D pencil and pretty much winged the entire thing (pun intended). I was inspired by a meme I saw on Instagram.  Despite the video only being a few seconds long, it took me a very long time to create it. I have a greater respect for animators now.

Post 8: I Felt Sad During Dinner

Image
I decided to mix things up and write a poem.

Post 7 Creative Limitation

Image
A creative limitation I have is that I don't think I'm very good at drawing. I have all these ideas in my head, but I find it nearly impossible to make them exist. In the TED Talk, the speaker mentioned that his goodbye art collection taught him to let go of his pieces and, in doing so, be okay with imperfect creations. This new perspective allowed him to create for the sake of learning and exploration. In the image attached, I messed up while trying to paint Mike Wazowski. While my painting is not what I imagined, I learned that I enjoy using the medium, which wouldn't have happened if I had refused to start.

Post 6 Warm Up Selfie

Image
For today's class attendance, we were asked to take a creative selfie of ourselves. My first thought was to mess with the camera settings on my phone. I made the filter "Rich Contrast" and then tried to do a hair flip with flash on. Unfortunately, at 9:00 in the morning, it's hard to look like anything else but a gremlin, so I quickly discarded that selfie. Time was running out, and I started to panic. I thought about taking a photo of a body part because we technically didn't have to take a photo of our face. My thought process was as follows: foot.... arm.... mole... eyes? EYES!!  I zoomed in on my eye and made different facial expressions to test out the selfies. I chose this particular photo because I liked how the blur made it feel more like a painting.

Post 5 Marvel or Monstrosity

Image
In high school, whenever I was bored, I would ask the person next to me to give me three animals. From there, I would create some sort of marvel or monstrosity. One of my favorite combinations was cat, dragon, and snail. Last night, while I waited for my boyfriend to finish up his homework, I asked my boyfriend to give me three animals. He told me elephant, beaver, and wallaby. He could've just said kangaroo for the third word, but he insists they are different things. I'm not sure if this creature is a monstrosity or a marvel, but it exists now, and it is mine.
