Post 50 Goodbye

Image
Here I stand before you just buttons and wire. At this point, I would like to think that you (Willie, the TA, whoever is grading this) have gotten to know me. With each post you've seen a little bit more behind each layer of the proverbial clay wire creepy doll.  I'll probably keep updating this blog, who knows. Feel free to leave a comment on any post you particularly like.

Post 49 Money

Image
A question I ask myself every night. I'd like to be a good person but it's difficult to be an ethical consumer in a capitalistic society. I used lipstick, dollars, paper, and marker for this.

Post 48 CMA Slide

Image
For my Cox Marketing Academy meeting, I was required to create a slide introducing myself. Here is the end result.

Post 47 Things I Do For $40

Image
This weekend, I made my mother's friend a pug for her birthday. I shouldn't have done this. This little guy here took me over seven hours to make. I am very behind in my homework. Right now, I am writing this post in my stats class. Looking back, I'm proud of how the face turned out (minus the eyes). Everything you see for the face are separate pieces.

Post 46 BCG (Before Chat GPT)

Image
When I was little, I had this toy horse I was obsessed with. For the 4th of July, I made it an outfit out of felt and tape. It's funny to see how I've been creating art one way or another throughout my life.

Post 45 Scribbles

Image
In high school I attempted to draw Nick Wilde on a whim, and it turned out okay. I learned that I could reproduce images fairly well by breaking everything down into shapes. All of my notebooks & planners are filled with random doodles. I tend to draw when I'm bored or need to vent.

Post 44 Lamp

Image
In my middle school digital graphics class my teacher required us to take a picture every single day. He wanted us to get into the habit of looking for interesting perspectives. This is a photo of a really weird lamp that my parents used to have. I was (and honestly still am) very proud of this photo.

Post 43 A Rant

Image
Get ready to scroll. I am going to rant today. Last night around 1:00 am, I was perusing Daredevil AO3 fanfics (as you do) and came across a horrific sight. Someone used CHATGPT to WRITE FANFIC.  I will admit, I used to think that people were being dramatic when they complained that ai art has no soul. Surely there is personal expression through the deliberate prompts the artist uses. I was very wrong. Fanfiction, in my opinion, is one of the most pure and creative expressions of art. If people truly did have souls, fanfiction is the closest we will ever get to touching one. Don't believe me? Take a look at this playlist to the left. Some fan out there felt so seen by Daredevil's character that they made an almost five-hour playlist of songs that explore the character's psyche. Every song on that playlist is deliberate and has a personal meaning to the creator.  In my experience, we love the characters that reflect the parts of ourselves we can't outwardly accept. The...

Post 42 Comic Con

Image
Last summer, I worked for Coca Cola and went to different events around Austin passing out samples/promoting products. One of my tasks was to take photos of people with the product we were sampling. While doing the outdoor shift at a Comic Con, I saw these guys and knew that I had to get a photo of them. For my very first Comic Con, it was an amazing experience.  If I were in the creative team over at Coca Cola, I would be highlighting these authentic moments over any AI dancing polar bear slop. For a company about connection, it fails to appreciate the fascinating and diverse communities it fosters.

Post 41 Goose

Image
I am trying to use all of my fluffy yarn before I buy more yarn to make clothing. As of right now, I only have pink and grey (gray?) yarn at my dorm (the rest is back at home), so I've been making some weird looking animals. The goose is the first animal project that I am just making for myself. I miss my boyfriend and my pets but don't have access to either so - goose.

Post 40 And Then There Was After You

Image
I drew this on the back of my accounting notes. I was speed studying this morning before my 9:00 am exam. Speaking of which - I TOOK MY LAST ACCOUNTNG EXAM (before the final)!!!! Life is so much better now. The air is sweeter. I feel like those tiny people in Wicked when Glinda dies. The image is inspired by Florence + The Machine "Haunted House".

Post 39 That Blanket Looks Comfy

Image
In a few weeks, this will be an anglerfish. Like this fish, I too want to lie down on my side on a blanket. Alas, I am of flesh and bones and must study for my accounting exam on Monday. In a slump right now so here are three things I'm grateful for: 1) I'm grateful that I have so much yarn. 2) I'm grateful that the weather has been beautiful. 3) I'm grateful that the Pitt is still releasing episodes.

Post 38 Sad, Anxious, etc.

Image
These past few weeks, whenever I feel sad, anxious, or some other unpleasant emotion, I draw on this piece of paper. It's been a rough semester to be honest. Four Cox classes in one semester was not my smartest idea. I'm burnt out and lonely. I just want to crochet with my best friend for a solid week without any assignments or networking events.  Speaking of crochet, I am making an anglerfish right now. There will be an update soon.

Post 37 With Great Power...

When I learned about the free 3-D printers at SMU, my first thought was to make something for my dad. In our family, we have this inside joke that his spirit animal is a seal. With the help of my friend, I designed and printed a seal with a human head. I spray painted the body grey and hand painted the face. To make the skin color, I mixed pink, white, and brown.

Post 36 Shoutout to John Kuentz

Image
In 8th grade, I took a digital graphics class for fun. My teacher was amazing and encouraged our creativity through different projects. For this particular project, we were required to pack a suitcase that represented us. I decided to use pink, blue, and purple to represent my bisexual identity. At the time, I was still closeted so it was really nice to have a small way to express my identity (even if it was for a school assignment).

Post 35 Just Need Eyes

I am almost done with the possum! I'm not sure what to do for the eyes. I was thinking about buying giant black buttons and winging it. The little guy has grown on me and I love him. Will hopefully give him to my mother by the end of this weekend.

Post 34 I Wanted to Be an Actor

Image
This pretty much captures how I feel about networking and maximizing my productivity. In another life, I would be doing anything else, but I need money to pay for my cat. I think LinkedIn is where authenticity goes to die.

Post 33 Are there binomials on Mars?

Image
It's a bit blurry but you get the general gist. I just came back from a Stats test. It was rough. I hate math. I don't want to be here. Honestly, I wish I was somewhere far away with a cat and a crochet project. No Canvas, no Excel, no forms to fill out, no networks to update... Just peace.
